HRIFY

Leave management software that follows the BCEA

Employees apply for leave from a phone or the web, and managers approve from one queue. HRify keeps every balance in line with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, so nobody has to keep a spreadsheet.

Applying for leave and approving it

A manager can approve a request, decline it, or ask for more information before deciding. Supporting documents, such as a doctor’s note, can be attached to the request.

  • An employee is warned that they do not have enough leave before they submit the request.
  • Balances are checked again before the final approval. A problem stops the approval, so nothing has to be undone.
  • The dashboard shows leave balances and who is out today.

The BCEA rules are built into the balances

Every statutory leave type

Every leave type in the Act is set up and ready from the start.

Sick leave on the 36-month cycle

Sick leave runs on a 36-month cycle counted from each employee’s own start date. It is not reset for the whole company on one date.

Carried-over leave expires on time

Carried-over leave expires when the Act says it does, and you cannot pay out more leave than section 20(11) allows.

Public holidays included

Every South African public holiday is in the calendar and is used in the leave calculation, so there is no separate list to maintain.

Monthly accrual

Leave accrues every month automatically. Nobody has to remember to run it.

Paying leave out needs a second person

When leave is paid out instead of taken, the person who raised the request cannot approve it.

To read the rules themselves, see our guide to annual leave under the BCEA.

Approvals continue while people are away

Your own approval chain

You decide who approves leave, in what order, and whether a step can be handed to someone else. Leave can need just one approval.

A stand-in when the approver is out

If an approver is away when something is submitted, HRify offers a stand-in at the same level who is not also away.

The original approver can still step in

When the original approver returns, they can overturn the decision or send it back a step, even though someone stood in for them.

Leave requests and approvals on a phone

Staff apply for leave in the HRify mobile app with a doctor’s note attached. Managers approve leave, timesheets and claims from one queue. They swipe right to approve and left to decline.

A notification says that a leave request needs review, but not whose it is or what it is for. More about the mobile app.

What it costs

Leave is included in every HRify tier, starting with Starter at R52 per employee a month, excluding VAT, with a minimum of R790 a month.

From the Professional tier, payroll reads approved leave from the same employee record. Work out the cost for your headcount, or see everything else HRify includes.
